American singer/ songwriter and guitarist Julie Byrne is ready to set the stage on fire with her balmy voice and soothing finger-picked music for us KLites, live in KL at none other than The Bee at Publika this coming February the 10th 2018, 8 pm onwards.
A true New Yorkian, Julie Byrne learned to play the guitar from her father by the age of 17, from her budding interest in music as a child growing up with a parent who had a passion for music. In an interview, Byrne felt that her passion for music has always been an ode to her father who was her biggest influence in her musical pathway, and every time she plays the guitar, it was always a way to honor her father’s hindered passion due to his medical condition.
Julie Byrne released two successful albums to date — “Rooms with Walls and Windows” in 2014, and her latest, critically claimed, ” Not Even Happiness” which already began to garner accolades as the “Album of The Year” by The Guardian, Pitchfork, and others. This is not Byrne’s first time for the aforementioned accolades as her first album was dubbed “2014’s Great American Album” by The Huffington Post.
Cited as new-age and psych-folk genre, Byrne’s style is, however, refreshing and quite unique. She draws inspiration from her nomadic lifestyle throughout her musical journey, having lived in places like Pittsburgh, Northampton, Chicago, Lawrence, Seattle, and New Orleans and recently, New York City. Her latest album “Not only Happiness” presents a melange of melody, with haunting vocals and beautiful flute and harp arrangements along with her signature guitar work.
This coming 10th of February 2018, Julie Byrnes will be taking center stage at The Bee, Publika at 8 pm onwards, hosted by Adapt Asia and The Bee. Tickets are available to purchase at www.galactix.asia
