Last weekend, our favorite pop-punk band An Honest Mistake’s EP launch of their latest ” The Corporate EP” at the Bee, Publika in conjunction with Levi’s Summer Jamming Showdown. Here’s the breakdown of the launching and jamming session that took place which deemed a fabulous kick-off to the summer festivities!
On the 12th of May, The Bee played host for two major events that are the Levi’s Summer Jamming Showdown which was concluded with the fiesty launch of An Honest Mistake’s (AHM) latest album drop called ” The Corporate EP”. In true Levi’s and AHM fashion, the party was lit with Jameson Irish Whisky making sure no one was thirsty and Shipwreck Tattoo artistes available for an on-site tattoo session.
To date, An Honest Mistake have put out 5 albums (4 full lengths & 1 EP), all of which have been original music. This year, however, the band is attempting to do cover songs instead and it promised nothing but perfection. An aptly titled EP, ‘The Corporate EP’ features 5 tracks ranging from the likes of Whitney Houston to Bruno Mars.
The band says that they want to put out something for everyone.
“If you want something from the 80s, we’ve got you covered. If you want something more current, we’ve got your sorted out too. We realised that the way music listeners listen to music now is very different. They like the association. If they hear you doing something they can resonate with, they’ll get into you. We’re not selling out. We’re just doing what makes sense,” says Darren, the lead singer of the band. The band has turned pop songs into a form of their own, giving it the classic An Honest Mistake touch.
There were also appearances from Kareema Ramli of post-hardcore band, Maddthelin, and Haziq of Fall Out Boy-esque band, I Lost The Plot.
Levi’s Summer Jamming Showdown brought in all the college crowd as it was an inter-college competition, battle of the bands’ style vying for the chance to record a single with Pulse Soundworks as well as win RM2000 worth of Levi’s apparel. Finally, band Sayonara Sunday from University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus came out as the Grand Prize winner of the showdown.
The mood did not settle as the crowd went crazy as the lineup was continued by the folk-pop group, Battle Bloom, Throne Away and also the likes of Haziq Afnan from I Lost The Plot and Kareema Ramli of Maddthelin joining An Honest Mistake onstage.
There was also Levi’s customization booth for attendees to customize their denim with patches and stencils too. Another event partner, Attic Jewelry and Piercing was also in full force as they offered piercing services for those interested.
