Certified nutritionist and co-founder of healthy food delivery startup, NourishMe, Alexandra Prabaharan discuss how NourishMe came about and why ulam is the most underrated superfood.
Recently, we sat down with Alexandra Prabaharan, a certified nutritionist and co-founder of NourishMe, a healthy food delivery service to pick her brains on the idea behind her startup and her passion in the healthy food industry. At NourishMe, one of the key factors for its success is the affordability as mentioned by Alexandra. NourishMe was previously known as LunchToYou and it was started 6 years ago as one of the earliest startups to dabble in healthy food delivery. However, Alexandra switched it to NourishMe last March and since, it has taken off here in the Klang Valley.
NourishMe operates as a subscription service for those who want access to healthy meal options and there is an array of options to choose from. Also, you can also send in a request to tailor make your meals according to your dietary needs too. Alexandra is very hands-on this as she curates and creates dishes from her own recipes which utilizes a lot of whole grains, local produce, and spices. She also vouches for the use of local herbs and vegetables such as ulam in her recipes because it is easily available and much cheaper than the regular kale and quinoa you can get from the supermarket for an astronomical price point. She believes that healthy options should not be confined to what is trendy at the moment i.e quinoa or avocado, and you can certainly find alternatives from your local vendor given that you have some knowledge in the area.
Speaking of knowledge, Alexandra is a seasoned speaker for food-related demonstrations and often invited by big corporations such as Nestle to educate the audience on the subject. Not only that, Alexandra is also recognized in Mont Kiara and Hartamas as a cooking demonstrator as she prides herself hosting cooking classes for residents to introduce healthy dishes. Her cooking classes are popular as she teaches about nutrition in an informal way, and that seemed to work with her students because it is very hands-on.
